Over a hundred student visitors (35 of which were from Harvard University) came out to hear God & Science: A Lecture Event. This event was sponsored by Harvard's ungraduate counsel through the faith and hard work of Stefan Wernli (recently baptized disciple, master degree student at Harvard University) and the rest of the Harvard Ministry. The lecture was videotaped and given by Dr. Howard Loree & Dr. Dean Farmer both scientists who are strong disciples of Christ. This event speaks of the science behind the intelligent design model. The event went off with a big bang as many studied the bible and were baptized from this event. We are excited about the campus exposion in Boston and the rebirth of the Harvard Ministry. Description of Event and Bios of speakers: Many people consider God and Science to be mutually exclusive, and even directly contradictory. But not all people involved in science are unreligious, and indeed belief in God does not mean disregard for science. This lecture event will help bring the often ignored view that God and Science can coexist and even support one another, through the presentation of two accomplished scientists: Dr. Dean Farmer and Dr. Howard Loree. Dr. Dean Farmer is currently an associate with the Intellectual Property department of WilmerHale. Prior to joining the firm, Dr. Farmer was an American Cancer Society post-doctoral fellow in the laboratories of Professor Stuart L. Schreiber at Harvard University and was the recipient of the National Institutes of Health post-doctoral fellowship. Dr. Farmer earned a Ph.D. in organic chemistry with Professor J. William Suggs from Brown University. His research concerned the total synthesis of dimeric-anthramycin analogs and the study of their DNA binding specificity. He attained a B.S. degree in chemistry from Furman University with a minor in music theory and education. Dr. Howard Loree holds two degrees in mechanical engineering from MIT (B.S., 1986; M.S., 1988) and a Ph.D. in Medical Engineering from the Harvard-MIT Division of Health Sciences and Technology (1992) with specialization in fluid mechanics. He did his postdoctoral training in cardiovascular biomechanics at the Brigham and Women's Hospital, Harvard Medical School (1992-1995). Over the past 13 years, Dr. Loree has served in various management and scientific roles in the biomedical device industry, primarily in the field of cardiac assist devices. He currently serves as a Principal Staff Scientist for Abiomed Corp (Ah-Bee-O-Med) in Danvers, MA, which has developed the worldÕs only FDA-approved heart replacement system, the AbioCor. Drs. Farmer and Loree have lectured on the topic of God & Science in Europe, the US, and Japan over the past 10 years. This event would allow them to present that lecture to Harvard and the surrounding community. The event would be open to students, faculty, and the public, with a plan for discussion and limited refreshments following. Videos of the Event: Chapter 1 of 5:
